| Originally titled Rebirth of Hope, this story was only a glimmer of an idea until the events of 9/11 gave me the direction the story had been lacking. Now this story of hope in the wake of disaster has been selected to appear in the anthology "Stories of Strength". All proceeds from this anthology will be donated to various charities including the Red Cross's Disaster Relief Fund. This story was reprinted in the March 2007 issue of Tales of the Talisman |
| Elpis -- the ancient name given to the gift of Hope and the name of the last of the bringers of Hope left in the mortal world; the first born and the most powerful of the now vanished unicorns. When a major disaster strikes the mortal world, the weary Elpis finds himself once again drawn from his home to help, but even he is overwhelmed by the grief and despair. However, the appearance of another of the ancient legends helps him to bring about a Rebirth of Hope. |
